About Kid City music
When Kid City opened its doors in 2008 to children and youth in downtown Los Angeles, it quickly began offering its first music lessons. It started as just a couple of kids getting guitar and drum lessons on secondhand instruments, and soon blossomed into a vibrant program that now serves youth from elementary to high school graduation and beyond. What we do
Private and group lessons are offered to beginning and advanced students on a number of instruments including strings, winds, piano, guitar, bass and drums.
Our goal is to awaken underrepresented high school students to the arts and higher education via music. Students in the music program will gain an appreciation of music, and see themselves not only as music-consumers but music-makers. Every semester (Fall and Spring) students can apply to take music lessons and or join the band. Want to take music lessons or join the band? Please contact us at: 213. 749.7371 email@example.com
We encourage students in 9th and 10th grade to join the program, but 11th and 12th graders are welcome. No Prior musical knowledge or instruction is required; students are selected based on commitment and willingness to learn. Students are from low-income, mostly immigrant families, mostly Latinx, but diverse in many ways.
One-on-one lessons are offered on Tuesday and Thursday to beginning and advanced students on a number of instruments including strings, winds, piano, guitar, bass and drums.
The Kid City Band is composed of high school students from downtown LA and nearby neighborhoods. They meet on Thursday to learn a wide repertoire of music including jazz, pop and rock. In the past, the Kid City Band has performed at the House of Blues, Splash Of LA, First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, and regularly at fall and spring recitals.
