Camp Discovery at Fox

On July 14th, Kid City members attended Camp Discovery, an event held by Fox Studios. This was a great way for students to learn about different careers in the entertainment industry, such as hair and makeup, animation, and being an editor for National Geographic Kids.

My group attended the entertainment business and National Geographic Kids seminars. The entertainment business portion gave kids great career advice by introducing them to different careers in the entertainment industry, encouraging them to start thinking about the steps they need to take to have their dream career or to find out what their dream career is, and warned them about paying attention to what they post on social media. Even though this was geared more towards kids, I left the panel feeling inspired and determined to pursue my dream career.

After, our group learned how National Geographic Kids select what pictures to put in the front cover and to document the story. The kids were asked to look at several pictures and to choose  which one was their favorite. It was great to see how excited the children got when they saw puppies, baby seals and other cute animals. The children also enjoyed watching the videos that are on the National Geo Kids website and laughed at several videos. They enjoyed one so much they asked to see it again. I also enjoyed watching these videos and believe they are great tools to use to help children learn more about nature.

After a morning full of learning, we were all able to relax and ate hamburgers, hot dogs, and other great food items and caught up with old and new friends.

We ended our day laughing while watching Ice Age: Collision Course and received a gift after.  As we left the studio, we couldn’t help but to say “thank you Fox Studios.”

This event was just one of the great gifts Fox Gives has provided us with since it became partners with Kid City. We are very grateful to have the support of Fox.
