Urban Foundation board member Marcus Tanimoto, and his wife Eisanne hosted a wonderful luau-themed party at their beautiful home on May 16th. Contributions from generous guests and matching funds from Merrill Lynch raised over $6,000 for Kid City programs.
Max Rico and Martin Ocampo welcomed everyone with a lei. The Hawaiian theme continued with great food, and snow! If you haven't tried this version of shaved ice cream, you haven't lived.
The Kid City band entertained while guests enjoyed Hawaiian food, and Ben Garcia and Diana Rodriguez spoke about their experiences as students at Kid City.
Featured speaker Jazmin Valenzuela shared about the moment two years ago when her dreams of going to a UC were dashed due to the cost of tuition. After two years of saving up and working hard at Pasadena Community College, Jazmin will be joining six other students at UC Santa Barbara this fall. We are so happy that Jazmin's dream will come true at last, and proud of all the college students determined to beat the odds!
